Aloha from Hawaii! FH and I have made it here just fine, after about 9 hours of travelling. Here we are after being properly greeted Hawaiian style by the Sheraton check-in folks in Ka'anapali, Maui.
I'm going to try to remember to post, if not to make the rest of you jealous, but to keep a record for us.
The flight was a long six hours, most of which were spent sleeping and eyeing the big blue expanse that is the Pacific Ocean. Here you can see that the clouds tried to duplicate North America.
Also, POG (Passion Fruit Orange Guava) juice is the best.
But at long last... 'Avast! Land ho!' .... we got our (my?) first sight of the Islands.
We hopped a go! Plane to Maui... drove an hour around the small part of the island... and checked in to our hotel.
This (these?) are our honeymooning beds. Apparently they upgraded us to a suite (it's quite sweet), but decided we would be better off in two beds. ;) Didn't we get married for a reason?
The bathroom is downright huge. Priorities?
After we arrived, we picked up a pretty sweet little grey Miata in which we'll be zoom-zoom-zooming about the island. I caught a rainbow shimmering in the mountain mist as we were waiting for the pick-up.
We walked around the beach walk for a bit, before sunset, and caught this boarder on my camera.
And of course, the food! I stupidly forgot to take a picture of our first dishes at the Cascade sushi bar at the Hyatt, but I got the last pair of nigiri sushi. Then we wandered around and landed upon Roselani ice cream at the Whaler's Village. The coconut haupia ice cream is... just amazing. So, so smooth. Yes, that is the same orchid.
Then we found a giant cockroach in our bathroom. FH trapped it under a trashcan, and called housekeeping to dispose of it. :)
So, that's pretty much the highlights from day one.
